Dante NYC

Cocktail bar

Why we point you here

A 1915 Village café turned all-day Italian aperitivo bar, and the reason half of New York suddenly started drinking Garibaldis. Come for coffee, stay till the spritzes.

Caffè Dante opened on MacDougal Street in 1915 and spent a hundred years as the neighborhood Italian spot before Linden Pride and Nathalie Hudson took it over in 2015 and turned it into an all-day aperitivo bar without bulldozing its soul. The drinks stay easy and Italian: a whole page of Negroni riffs, and a Garibaldi of just Campari and slowly whipped "fluffy" orange juice that somehow became a cocktail everyone copies now. Roll in for an espresso in the morning or pasta and a spritz at night, nobody's rushing you. It's been named World's Best Bar by the World's 50 Best Bars, and the Spirited Awards gave it World's Best Bar and Best American Restaurant Bar in one year. Order the Garibaldi. It's two ingredients and it'll ruin you for the regular kind.
