Chef Jungsik Yim's Tribeca restaurant was the first Korean restaurant outside South Korea to earn three Michelin stars — it launched New York's Korean fine-dining boom.
When Chef Jungsik Yim opened Jungsik in Tribeca in 2011, modern Korean fine dining barely existed in New York; today the city has a dozen Michelin-starred Korean restaurants, and many of their chefs came up through his kitchen. His cooking takes the familiar — banchan, gimbap, bibimbap — and makes it quietly startling, from raw striped jack with white kimchi to crisp octopus with gochujang aioli, all plated with a clean downtown elegance. In December 2024 it became the first Korean restaurant outside South Korea to win three Michelin stars, and Yim took the James Beard Outstanding Chef award months later. Refined, original, and genuinely satisfying — the kind of meal that makes you nod to yourself while you eat.
